School Already?

Down here in the valley of the sun, school starts early. Tyler and Abby started school this past Thursday. They were both excited to start at a new school. Abby is in Kindergarten and Tyler is in 1st grade. They loved the fact that they are going to the same school. They have come home both days and can't stop talking about what they did, yes even Tyler.

Ben gave them both Father's blessings to help them and us through the school year. I feel so comforted and thankful that my husband holds the priesthood. The kids felt so special as their dad put his hands on their heads and gave them a personal blessing of love from Heavenly Father. They were so quiet and reverent through both blessings. I am so proud of them and our family!

So, hand and hand our children go! I love them and hope they enjoy school, learn, grow, make friends, have fun and stay safe!

Fun Fact: Today when I went to pick them up, the Lady that helps with pick up went to go find the kids because they weren't waiting curbside. When they approached, she told me that they were walking towards her and me holding hands. I thought that was so sweet. This means they actually like each other!!! Hee... hee.. In all honesty, Tyler and Abby love eachother and they like eachother most of the time!

Babysitting Exchange

Gotta love the forts!

Benji and the popcorn Bag!

These worked out perfect and they loved having
their names on their bags!!

We have started a babysitting exchange with my sister in law and brother in law--jodie and amy. Mason and Conner came over on Friday so their parents could have a date night and then we went out on Saturday. Now that the kids are a little older it seems that it works out good.

The kids love, love eachother. They have a great time together. It was a great opportunity for the kids to play with their cousins, but it was even a better opportunity for us to get to know our nephews more as well. They are such sweet and fun boys!

When they first got here. They just played and played. Then Ben took them outside in the back to play which they did and didn't want to come in. They didn't even notice that it was over 100 degrees without the sun. Then uncle Ben made a big fort in the middle of the room which they nestled into and watched a movie with of course 'popcorn'! I made them popcorn bags with their names on them and they chomped away. Benji even got one, but decided to dump it all over him.

Abby said to me both nights--"Mom,, I had a blast."!

Ben and I had a wonderful time both nights--imagine that!:)

Oh my SWEET boy TYLER!

Tyler is my oldest and sweetest boy! I say 'sweetest' because he truly is a sweet boy! He has a big heart and loves his 'people'! When I say people -- that encompasses quite of few people in his world.

As most of you know, Tyler has a speech delay (pretty significant) for his age. He also has a fine motor skill delay (which means mainly with his writing skills--hands and finger movements 'need fine tuning'! He has progressed greatly on both ends but still needs improvement in both.

It has been a challenge since he was about 2 years old because since then he has not caught up with his age group in communication. Now we all know how frustrating it is to be telling someone something and they are not understanding what we are trying to tell them. It happens all the time in life situations. Well, for tyler this is a daily occurrence and it can repeat itself in a day as well.

So, I get frustrated, Ben gets frustrated and most people get frustrated that they can't understand what Tyler is saying sometimes. Well, Tyler gets the most upset when he is not understood because he 'knows exactly' what he saying. Tyler loves to talk and conversate, but his words get lost in translation a lot.

I will sometimes look at other people (his people) while Tyler is talking to them and a lot of them will tune him out or just 'fake' knowing what he said. My heart is sad for both of them. For the people they are losing out on knowing Tyler and what he is about and for Tyler he sometimes feels it from them that they are not taking in what he is saying and he gets mad or just walks away.

Having a communication barrior is a huge handicap for Tyler and for all of us in his world. I, being his mom, love him dearly and want him to succeed and progress in every way possible so I pray, I fight for him in the school system, I find ways to help him move forward and I repeat my steps again and again until I am exhausted. Rest a bit and then keep doing it--because he's my son and I love him more than he will ever know.

The other day we are in the car and Tyler asks a question? I say, what did you say? (which is a common occurence) He says it again? I guessed at what he said and the guess was wrong because he told me, "no mom". Then, (something that he has not done before) asks the question using different words which I can, this time, understand. My little guy surprised me and is breaking communication barriers. Tyler felt good and I felt good.
He was asking are we home yet? I couldn't understand 'home' (what he does when communicating is omits, replaces or just can't pronounce the sounds correctly altogether--its a processing thing from his brain through his mouth). Speech is hard to understand because most kids have a different problems with speech(there are 100's of unique delays within speech).

He is going to a new school with (I hope) better help for him. I am told with therapy and hard work he will catch up to his age group. Now just so you know. Most of the time, Tyler understands language just fine, it is when he communicates back--his brain is correctly relaying the response, but when processing from the brain to actually speaking out loud is where the speech and responses are slightly different. Hence, the frustration on Tyler's part because again he knows what he is saying. He just doesn't understand that we sometimes can't always know.

He is a happy little boy who is a comedian at heart. The irony of that. He trys to tell a choke and laughs at himself and we are left in the dust because sometimes we can't understand the joke.

But on a positive note he is progressing and 'his' people are understanding Tyler more and more. I pray for him and love him.

Monsoons!

examples of some of the stuff we see after a monsoon storm!

Monsoons bring in interesting weather. The kids have loved the show and then amazed at what it can do. Like bent over trees, broken trees, lots of made up little ponds everywhere and dust storms with blinding power!

Nature can be the best entertainment ever!

Abby and bella (our dog) enjoyed playing and splashing in the 'nature made ponds' around our community the other morning.

Abby Turns 5 with all her little friends!

Cupcakes! Pink all around!

Fairy wands and such!

This is where the fairies entered!

Look at our wands!

Nana fairy and birthday fairy!

Abby is my special little girl! My only girl so I dote on her girlyness! I was so excited to plan a friend party for her because she is a 'girl'! It is so fun to have an excuse to be 'girly'! Abby was counting the days till her birthday 'day' and her 'friend party'! It was fairy themed in all its glory!

They played Bingo, tinker bell style, made two fairy wands, had fairy dust sprinkled on them, had special fairy 'pink sparkly' drink and pink&white fairy cookies to be light on their toes and to give energy to flutter about!;) They played duck duck goose but fairy style--- Tinker, Tinker, Tinker, and Bell! They all named themselves unique fairies--Abby was 'Birthday Fairy'! Then we had delightful 'pink/strawberry cupcakes and sang to the special birthday fairy! She had a wonderful time with her fairy friends. It was so much fun to do this for her.

Oh, and we had a helper among us at the fairy party --- Nana Fairy! Thanks for coming, Abby loved having you and so did I!

Abby is such a beautiful girl inside and out! She is a happy one and loves her family and friends. She is so inquisitive about everything and anything, asks a million questions, takes in the scenery and knows how to give out lots of love! Happy Birthday to you Abby!

Birthday Girl! "5"

Abby and Pyper in the background!

Meyham in the pool! What else do you do in 112 temps.?

Aunt Aimee gave Abby this Princess bag. Posing!

Aunt Jessica made this tu tu for Abby! too cute...

Here are our 'gigantic' cupcakes! Yummy!

My little one is 5! We had a great family birthday for Abby and her cousin Gaje, who turned 4. It was at Nana hill's house. We had a pool party with 'gigantic' cupcakes, hot dogs, homemade party bags by Aimee and sparklers courtesy of Papa hill. It was crazy fun with all the kids!

Tents, flashlights, and gun fire! ;0

There are 4 camping posts so read on! Hope everyone had a good Independence Day!

Love these kids--Our little Campers!
Benji is the only one missing from
this shot! We have from left --Mason, Conner, Abby,
Bella, Samuel, Tyler and Avery is on top! Benji was there
just not in the picture also our little Scarlett was home with
her mom!

Fires every night and morning! There were
neighbor campers who were target shooting just
a little too close and so the sheriff was called
and he stopped by to let us know the situation
was taken care of and they gave all the kids
badges and stickers! They then played
' little sheriff's--getting the bad guys' for hours!
They thought it was so
cool that a sheriff stopped by!

This is called 'DONE'--right before the
fireworks!

Happy 4th of July! I love life,
liberty and happiness!

Our cousin Samuel with his goodies!

Crickets, Maggie 'the dog', and daddy long legs!

I have about 4 posts of our camping trip over the 4th so keep scrolling down to enjoy!

Benji was content with popcorn and the fire.
He was busy, but always stopped to eat!hee. hee.

Playing in the tent! busy, bee,....

On Saturday, we went into Williams and the kids
were in a watermelon eating contest@! Fun..
They also won a liter of root beer in ring toss!

Look at that determination! Where does she get
that???!

There was a potty down the road so we took
this for potty runs! Sometimes the kids
made up that they had to go so they could ride
in it!

Bug Repellant, sunscreen and air mattresses!;)

I am all sticky, but yummy!

Ty and Conner and Uncle Ben navigating!

Ethan, Angela and kids canoeing!

This was a huge hit with all the kids. They played
on it and took rides all day, literally!

So, it got really cold at night and Benji's outfit didn't
have enclosed feet so here was our idea--
Mommy's socks so he couldn't take them off and
stay warm! We got a good laugh!

Pines,camp fire, dirt and smores!

Grandma put together all the festive buckets for the kids!

Benji is ready to cook! Wearing
daddy's old apron!

Abby loves her Uncle Jake!

Tyler hangin in the hammock!

This is where Benji was a lot of the time
sitting on the ground eating the
grass or playing with the rocks and
dirt. He was content right there!!!:)

What more could you ask for on the 4th of July? Well, I am not going to answer that question. Those of you who know me know that I am not a huge fan of camping. But Ben has been wanting to camp for awhile as a family so an opportunity presented itself and off we went. We camped in close to Williams, AZ. It is so beautiful in that area. We camped near Whitehorse lake which was very relaxing and calm, canoed & had a picnic! I look at camping as having Pros and Cons. But I will talk more on the Pros!

The kids had a fabulous time with their cousins. Running here and there. Loving every moment! We adults loved watching their excitement and enjoyed chit chat by the fire and naps in the hammocks!

The weather was perfect in almost every sense of the word. Not too hot and not too cold! The clouds would roll in and out through the day giving a great breeze and cool down to the area! We had good eats ---yummy taco soup(from grandma johnson), chicken&rice(Ethan and Angela) and eggs, sausage and fruit filled pancakes for breakfast! We actually sang around the camp fire and celebrated some July b-days with a fesitive 4th of July cake! The weekend created many memories on all sorts of levels! Love our Johnson family - it is always a good time!
